Ibadan hosts the whole southwest as Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) graduates 1st batch yesterday.
The whole Samonda area was agog as CBN-Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) graduates her first batch of graduands yesterday.
Coming in from University of Ibadan axis, or Sango area, you wouldn’t fail to notice the heavy traffic that was all around the old Social Development Center in Samonda. Heavy security men were all on stand by guiding the traffic and also helping the guests and graduating students to find their ways into the premises. Well dressed men and women all trooped towards the main entrance of the center in quick strides so as to get to the sitting area early to secure the front row in the large mobile canopy. WhatsupIbadan was there too to give you details as it went down.
Of course, its the first graduation ceremony and dignitaries are been expected from all south western states of the country. Representing Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is Mr Ayodele aderinwa; The deputy Chief Coordinator, Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta. So also representing the CBN Governor- Mr Godwin Emefiele is Hajia Maina, while representing the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Olusegun Mimiko is Mrs Sulton, Director of Ondo State Micro Credit Agency. Of course the Host State Governor was duly represented by the SSG of the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli., amongst other dignitaries at the event.
It was a loaded event and was captivating right from the beginning; from the opening remarks, special remarks, goodwill messages, keynote address, even to the recognition of graduates and presentation of testimonies. There was refreshment for all, music, a drama sketch by Lead City University drama troupe among other side attractions. The venue was so filled with the graduating students and their guests, that the well dressed ad-hoc ushers who are part of the present EDC students that were recruited to manage the crowd had a tough job keeping them at bay. The high point of the event which almost all the graduating students waited for was the award of cheques and certificates to the deserving individuals. Though a symbolic presentation was held, some of the students that spoke with our correspondence after the event expressed their views, while thanking Dr Olumide Abimbola Ajayi and the entire management of EDC for a job well done stating that they thought the presentation of cheques will not come to reality. They said they understood that the symbolic one that was held was done so as not to waste the time of dignitaries, and that it wasn’t a facade as some of their guest thought.
